IT Trends 2018 – What’s On The Horizon?

IT trends

IT is an ever-growing, ever-changing, ever-evolving sector, and as we leave 2017 behind us and jump into the unknown of 2018, what might we expect when it comes to IT trends? What is going to help us over the next 12 months when it comes to cloud networking, security, and connectivity?

Biggest IT Trends 2018

The Cloud Will Grow

Trust in the cloud is growing. With as many as 84% of the UK moving to the cloud and with four out of five people using more than one cloud-based program or device, the cloud is only expected to keep growing into 2018. With the arrival of GDPR in May 2018, businesses will also be looking to change how they interact with their subscribers and customers too. This is probably the biggest factor and pattern for change that businesses are most likely to notice.

Cybersecurity and Prevention

Another big factor to consider in 2018 is, of course, cyber security. Cyber security has been a large scale issue for some time, with many companies putting in new measures to protect their IT all the time. However, as we saw earlier in the year with the attack on the NHS, breaches are still occurring and damage is still being done. In 2018, the emphasis will be on tackling cyber security breaches before anything happens – putting protocols and systems in place that prevent them from happening in the first place. Cyber security prevention will be a key IT trend for 2018.

Analytical Tools Will Improve

It’s important for business owners to use analytical tools to find out whether their marketing techniques are actually helping their business to grow. Predicted IT trends for 2018 suggest that analytical tools will be more essential than ever and will make use of features such as augmented reality, machine learning, and AI to help them along. Being able to integrate these tools into systems that are already up and running will certainly be a bonus for business owners, and should be possible with the new artificial intelligence technology that is coming our way next year. Implementing these new IT trends will make business analytics much more efficient, and much more reliable, giving business owners a true idea of what is really happening in their business and across all sectors.

The next phase of Automation

It is thought that one in five jobs will become automated eventually. Although many IT trends don’t worry people too much, this is one of the 2018 IT trends that cause people the most concern. Automation is the process of making something work autonomously, without human interaction. It’s been a big factor at play throughout 2017, but over the next 12 months, it is set to grow even more. Additional processes instigated through the use of robots and algorithms will be key and are expected to become integral to an additional number of industries. Robots are expected to take on more of the jobs that are considered dangerous, dirty, dull, and dreary. Machines can do these jobs more accurately and without any risk of injury or death. Machines don’t need to be paid either, meaning they’re a very worthwhile investment.
